fracture

You know those stories that you hear about people who grind or clench their teeth so badly that they actually fracture them and wear them down to nubs?

That is what is wrong with that tooth that has been bugging me.

I never would have dreamed that I would be one of those people. Never. I am a seasoned jaw clencher. I have been clamping my jaw shut when I sleep since I was a child. I go through phases where I am clenching so badly at night that my entire face hurts the next day. And yet I never thought I would have to get crowns because I had actually broken my own teeth with the severity of my jaw clenching. It's crazy.

Well, I am putting off making that appointment because the economy is in the toilet and we don't really have a thousand dollars for a crown laying round. It's not bad yet. There is no decay and no nerve pain, which means no root canal (yay! good news!) and it is even possible that I won't need a full crown. So I can wait a little bit. I don't want to put it off until it is bad, but right now I just don't know whose butt I can pull a thousand dollars out of.

I really am fascinated by the fact that I broke my own darn tooth just by clenching my jaw when I sleep. I sort of feel like some sort of super hero with Jaws of Steel or something. I can't get over that.

And on a completely different note, it's Shameless Plug Wednesday time!!

Just in case you are looking for some gifty type stuff, or the warmest, most soft and cozy and wonderful scarf in the south... I am finally updating my Etsy store. I've made some notecards that I am positively in love with, and if someone doesn't buy that scarf soon I am going to keep it!

So keep an eye out! There might be something finding its way into the store that you need!

Ah yes - I have been grinding my teeth for years and have a special night splint that the dentist made (10 yrs old now- will need to replace - who has the $ for that?). I have cracked it, worn a hole in it, ground massive grooves in it, and have basically worn it out. I shudder to think what I would have done to my teeth by now. Good Luck!

Those cards are charming! Remind me again after the wedding and I just might snatch up a few (if you have any remaining)!

I'm as poor as dirt right now, but when I have two nickels to rub together, I'll be at your etsy shop first thing.

And I hear you about the clenching... when I'm super stressed it's my fall-back thing. Thankfully, it's been a while since it's been a problem, but there were at least a couple of weeks this summer where I was in excruciating pain on a daily basis. Good luck! And if I find any asses shitting out thousand-dollar bills, I'll let you know. :)

Tara,
The scarf is wool free? You may just have yourself a buyer... I'm checking out the store.

One of my brothers has a problem with clenching. He'll find himself driving along and unable to open his mouth since his jaw muscles are in spasm from clenching so hard. He has had 4 or 5 crowns now because of it.

WOW! I WANT that Julia Shawl Wrap! Really.
